Daily Prayer

Daily Prayer provided by the official Church of England web site, © The Archbishops' Council of the Church of England, 2002-2004.

…was begun in the 1990s, especially to meet the needs of a growing number of congregation members with African origin. The service uses the Anglican communion liturgy, but with a more relaxed and informal feel. Worship is led by the Living Waters Singers. They sing a repertoire of African pentecostal music, Gospel, R&B, and Afro-American spirituals, in English, French and many other languages. The sermon is usually in English with French translation.

The life of the 2 p.m. congregation is overseen by a committee of elders. In addition to our own clergy, we sometimes invite visiting African priests to preach, and we also benefit from the ministry of Grace West who works as our French-speaking prison chaplain. The 2 p.m. congregation is exceptionally warm and welcoming. Services are often followed by a fellowship meal with African cooking when someone has something to celebrate.
