Daily Prayer

Daily Prayer provided by the official Church of England web site, © The Archbishops' Council of the Church of England, 2002-2004.

Thomas Cranmer’s Book of Common Prayer is one of the foundational documents of Anglicanism and indeed of the English Language. It expresses with great beauty the reformed, catholic theology that has characterised the Anglican church since the Reformation. At our 9 a.m. service, we use this liturgy together with chanted psalms and a traditional hymn. There is a short, reflective sermon.

Many people have found the traditional prayer book service a source of great comfort, perhaps especially when they simply want a time of quiet with God, without the demands of active community participation. Others like an early morning service, so they can worship God at the start of the day before spending the rest of a relaxing Belgian Sunday with their family. But this service is not silent and solemn. It has the youngest average age of any of the four congregations in our church, and on a typical Sunday it’s not unusual for half the congregation to be children! We aim to finish this service by around 9.45 a.m.
