Daily Prayer

Daily Prayer provided by the official Church of England web site, © The Archbishops' Council of the Church of England, 2002-2004.

Children and Young People are a valued and important part of our church. We are all called to ensure that the next generation grows up knowing God's Love and leading a life firmly rooted in the values and principles of the Christian faith.

To this end, we provide a comprehensive programme of children's and youth activities each week.

Sunday Mornings at 10.30 a.m.

We have 80 regular members cared for by some 40 leaders and helpers. During the 10.30 a.m. service there are five classes available:

Creche

For the very youngest of our children, we run a crèche that lasts through most of the morning service. The crèche meets in its own dedicated room with baby changing facilities. It is staffed by a rota of parents, and a warm welcome is assured.

Scramblers/Climbers (3 - 6 year olds)

Come and join our 3 – 6 year olds as they shout, sing and play for Jesus. Our session begins at 10.20 a.m. with worship, followed by an improvised biblical drama.

The children then move into their own group for a related craft activity.

Explorers (7 - 10 years old)

As our children get older, they start to ask questions about their faith. Explorers do exactly this – they explore Christianity and the meaning of the Bible.

The Scripture Union “Light” series gives them the opportunity to learn and think – and through music they have the opportunity to worship. At age 8 our children have the opportunity to take a course which leads to admission to Holy Communion. Start time 10.20 a.m.

Pathfinders (10 - 13 year olds)

In Pathfinders we try to help our younger people think about Christian living. The pressures of adolescence are integrated into the teaching. Open discussion is encouraged as is regular prayer together.

Challenging activities – designed to stretch the mind and body – are used, as are materials from mission organisations so that the world is opened up and God's Love can be seen worldwide. Regular social activities and a weekend away are offered. Pathfinders starts at 10.30 a.m.

CYFA (14+)

For teenagers, keeping up a Christian faith can be a huge challenge. In CYFA, we aim to disciple our older teenagers so that they are comfortable and secure in their faith or are able to continue the search for faith.

Key questions of life, relevant to their circumstances and experiences, are addressed and a safe environment is created for questioning. But it's not all about teaching, and periodic breakfasts and lunches are encouraged to develop fellowship and friendship.

Sunday Afternoons at 2 p.m.

The Young Diplomats

As in our morning service, children and youth from 3-14 years (known as the Young Diplomats) have their own classes during the 2 p.m. service. Our teachers take time to get to know each child personally and present relevant Bible stories and messages. Singing, dancing, playing and learning, gives each child and young person the opportunity to know Jesus, receive God's Love and feel secure in their Christian journey. Most of our children at this service are Francophone.

Ambassadors for Christ

Not a youth group in the traditional sense, but a place where (mainly African) young people aged 14-25 who are serious about their faith can grow and exercise their gifts. Saturday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. see the Walker Hall below the church ringing with the sounds of stepping! The Ambassadors For Christ meet and practice their spirit filled stepping dances and then gather together for fellowship and teaching. No subject is off the agenda and peer education is encouraged. Guest speakers, topical discussions and personal support are key to the discipleship of these teenagers. They also meet on Friday evenings from 8 to 10 p.m. to worship together and study the bible. Click on Ambassadors for Christ for more information and see them on Facebook here.

The Messengers

Children aged 8 years and above meet on Saturday afternoons from 2 to 4 p.m. to do Rwandan dance and prayer in the Walker Hall below the church.
